Complete the Master Promissory Note
The Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s). You may receive more than one loan under an MPN over a period of up to 10 years to pay for your educational costs. The Financial Aid Office will tell you which loans, if any, you are eligible to receive.
You can complete the master promissory note by visiting StudentAid.gov.
Apply for a Parent PLUS Loan (Dependent Students)
Sometimes the amount of financial aid that a dependent student is eligible for is not enough to cover their expenses. USDOE allows the parent to apply for a loan under the parent's name. This loan can assist in covering the students' costs. To apply for a PLUS Loan the parent applying for the loan must:
- Complete the Federal Direct PLUS Worksheet.
- Complete the PLUS Master Promissory Note on StudentAid.gov.
The Financial Aid Office will process the application and determine if the parent is approved for the loan. If approved the parent and the financial aid office will determine how much they can borrow.
